چکیده

ABSTRACT: The aim of this study is to measure the in-situ carbon dioxide emissions from forest floors in forested and deforested areas in Karasu Forests in Western Black Sea Region of Turkey. Carbon dioxide emissions from forest floors are one of the main reasons of increasing the carbon concentration in the atmosphere. Deforestation, releases CO2 to the atmosphere because carbon stored in the organic matter of trees and soils is oxidized during the processes of removing the forests. Closed dynamic soil respiration chamber measurement equipment CIRAS-2 SRC1 (PP systems, Hitchin, UK) is used to measure in-situ the forest floor CO2 flux from the study area. The following environmental parameters as follows are also determined: Soil moisture, temperature, pH, organic material content and soil texture. Statistical analyses were performed to demonstrate significant differences among soil parameters.

Comparison of soil and forest floor properties of floodplain and surrounding forests in Igneada, Turkey.

In this study some soil and forest floor characteristics of floodplain forest, thermophile forest and sand dune were investigated at Igneada, Turkey. In this context, surface soil samples were analyzed and compared to each other in the extension of soil physical, chemical properties and as plant nutrition environment. To investigate the soil characteristics soil samples were collected from 48 s...

Radioactivity measurements in spas of central and Eastern Black Sea region, Turkey

Background: The aim of this study is to measure the level of radon gas in the thermal springs of the four seasons in the Black Sea Region and to determine the gamma activity levels in the soils around them. Materials and Methods: Indoor radon activity concentrations of four spa facilities, namely Ladik, Havza, Ilıcaköy, and Ayder, were measured using CR-39 passive radon dosimeters and active ra...

Carbon allocation in boreal black spruce forests across regions varying in soil temperature and precipitation

A common hypothesis for northern ecosystems is that low soil temperatures inhibit plant productivity. To address this hypothesis, we reviewed how separate components of ecosystem carbon (C) cycling varied along a soil temperature gradient for nine welldrained, relatively productive boreal black spruce (Picea marianaMill. [B.S.P.]) forests in Alaska, USA, and Saskatchewan and Manitoba, Canada. A...

Biotic and abiotic factors regulating forest floor C02 flux across a range of forest age classes in the southern Appalachians

We measured forest floor C02 flux in three age classes of forest in the southern Appalachians: 20-year-old, 85-year-old, and old-growth. Our objectives were to quantify differences in forest floor C02 flux among age classes, and determine the relative importance of abiotic and biotic driving variables. Forest floor C02 flux was measured using an openflow infrared gas analyzer measurement system...
